The Emotional Architecture Center (EAC) was founded in 2022 at a moment when it was becoming clear that the emotional life of our country—and much of the world—was struggling to emerge from the profound disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, it became evident that existing frameworks for understanding emotions—such as emotional intelligence—while valuable, were no longer sufficient on their own to explain the complexity of how emotions shape human behavior in a rapidly changing world.
This realization began a journey to explore the work of leading psychologists, neuroscientists, and scholars studying emotion, cognition, and behavior.
Drawing on insights from these fields, the concept of Emotional Architecture emerged: the idea that our emotional lives are structured systems shaped by memories, beliefs, interpretations, and patterns that together influence how we experience the world and how we act within it.
These ideas were first articulated in an initial white paper on Emotional Architecture. Over the past three years, the work has continued to evolve and expand. It has led to the co-founding of Emotect ai a technology company dedicated to building tools that help individuals and organizations better understand the emotional systems that shape human decision-making, relationships, and performance.
Today, the Emotional Architecture Center seeks to translate the growing science of emotion into practical insight. Through research, writing, keynotes, panel discussions, and consulting, EAC works to help individuals and organizations build healthier emotional systems—and ultimately better lives, relationships, and workplaces.
